[attr="class","eris109"]The world goes by in a blur, the chilly night winds wailing in her ears as she runs.[break][break]

They have no heart. They are crude. Selfish. They do not understand emotions like we do.[break][break]

So why then had they flinched? Why had they worn such a scared and defeated expression? Unable to lift their head to meet her gaze? Even if she hadn't said a word, she'd known the pixie capable of reading her heart. Why did they -[break][break]

The trees blot the faint moon, as if attempting to hide her away from the pale light. And they snicker in hushed tones, whispering to one another as she trips and falls over their sprawling roots.[break][break]

Bad things happen to bad people. This is what she gets for thinking such things. Knees and palm scrape against the dirt, pain gnawing up her limbs as she tucks up and tumbles across the ground. And when she finally rolls over onto her back, it is to the sight of a starless night. A cold, empty sky that offers no comfort.[break][break]

A shaky exhale, condensing into a fading wisp. The ground is cold beneath her, prickling through her clothes as she lays to catch her breath.[break][break]

And with each breath she takes, she eventually cracks and begins to sob.

Stars, even when hidden, are kind. They burn with light that was old when the first human was born. Stars and their light are mankind’s eternal witness. The girl holds a fragment of such a star, and from that shard comes solace.[break][break]
Hoenn is no stranger to queer weather. Winter is almost here. Winter in these strange times bring snow. It is not the strangest thing when mist rolls in across the woods…[break][break]
A wolf steps out of the mist, looking down at the girl. Sheathed across her back is a massive scabbard, her sword slumbering like her bonded knight. Both wait for the next battle. She did not come here to fight. She looks down at the young one and remembers an old memory, another time far removed from this one.[break][break]
She yawns and sits by the girl. Her cyan fur is warm over hard muscles. She nuzzles against the young one, pulling her close and inviting her to sleep. Better to not be alone when one’s heart is a storm, when all the world is falling upon your head.

[attr="class","eris109"]Gentle is the glow of the fragmented hope she holds, but it is not her Polaris on this dark, unyielding night. As mist creeps in and glazes over the sky, she has to wonder if they are here to see her at her worst. If this is meant to be some kind of trial or another problem meant to add to the already large pile she's created.[break][break]

Never in her life does she expect to see a giant wolf armed with a sword, nor that the canid settles right beside her, pulling her in just like how Reiner would when he finds her at her lowest. And for a moment, her heart feels like it's been squeezed, compressed into a tiny, tiny thing that just can't seem to beat right.[break][break]

Shaky palms cover her eyes, press against them as if that might just stop the tears from flowing. That the sorrow in her eyes might just be contained if she holds on tight. He isn't here. None of them are here. They're all missing when she needs them the most. Even though they've told her they'd come running if she ever needed them.[break][break]

Does she even want them around? To see her in such a miserable state? To judge her for yet another mistake?[break][break]

Curling up does nothing to stem the bleeding of a wounded heart. She doesn't even fight back, no longer possesses the will to even try. And as the world crashes and presses down upon her, she chooses to hide, sinking into the warmth and silence that this fairy tale provides.
